Covid-19: Immigration Impact in Brazil

Capture

Like most countries, Brazil has implemented a series of temporary restrictive measures related to immigration in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus, for example:

Starting March 23, 2020, entry into Brazil by air will be restricted for a period of 30 (thirty) days for foreigners from China, the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Australia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea.

The restriction on entry into Brazil does not apply to Brazilian citizens by birth or naturalization, immigrants with prior authorization to reside in Brazilian territory issued, foreign professionals on a mission to serve an international entity, provided they are duly identified, foreign employees accredited to the Brazilian government, foreigners who fall under the hypothesis of family reunification with a Brazilian citizen by birth or naturalization who is in national territory, foreigners whose entry is specifically authorized by the Brazilian government in view of the public interest or the transportation of cargo.

Furthermore, the public service provided by Federal Police agencies regarding the issuance of passports, immigration regularization, including the delivery of CRNM (National Migration Registration Card) and DPRNM (Provisional National Migration Registration Document), even if previously scheduled, are limited to situations considered to be of extreme necessity, upon assessment by the Federal Police.

The expiration dates for protocols, CRNM and other documents related to migration regularization are considered extended until the end of the public health emergency situation.

The above provision also applies to the authorized period of stay of foreigners in Brazil holding a Brazilian visitor visa, that is, no foreigner will be penalized if the term of their Brazilian visitor visa expires during the period of public health emergency.

Additionally, all individuals who have recently been to countries where the virus has spread must quarantine upon entry into Brazil.

The Brazilian government's measures to prevent the spread of the virus, such as entry regulations and quarantine rules, may change at any time given the volatility of the pandemic.
